We are a research group of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine. Our group investigates molecular processes that could be targeted to improve the treatment of highly prevalent hepatic diseases.

Our research interests are focused on several molecular processes regulated in hepatocytes that promote the development of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). MASLD (previously known as NAFLD) affects to 30% of the worldwide population and it is highly frequent in obese and diabetic patients. Our lab is investigating how the expression of the nuclear receptor PPARgamma in hepatocytes contributes to the development of MASLD in mouse models.
Moreover, our lab is investigating specific mechanisms regulated by an specific isomer of conjugated linoleic acid in the liver that could have positive effect in the control of glucose levels in the circulation.
